Tips and Tricks for your Scientific Calculator

I remember when I was at school we used to write 5318008 and turned the calculator upside down for a laugh, admit it you did that too didn’t you? The new natural displays on scientific calculators for GCSE Maths don’t quite look the same though. However, there are some absolutely fabulous tips and tricks for your scientific calculator, that you can do with them to help make life easier when you’re working on a range of GCSE calculator topics.

These are some of the tips and tricks for your scientific calculator that I recommend, that you can practice now:

  1. Use the answer key when you need to use the previous answer you just calculated as part of the new calculation. This reduces the chance for error as you don’t have to remember numbers or write something down unnecessarily.
  1. Move the cursor to adjust the calculation if you make a mistake, or the delete button to undo the thing you did last. No more deleting the whole thing like the classic calculator!
  2. If you are going to need to use lots of different previous calculations, store numbers into the A-F alpha memory keys to speed things up and save you writing things down and potentially mixing them up later. Just don’t sneak values into this for your exams!!
  3. Use the fraction button to simplify ratios. This is absolutely amazing! Watch the video on my Youtube here:

BONUS: Use the function mode to get the points for graph drawing. This is a little bit of magic, I must say! When I first demonstrated this to my PA, it absolutely blew her mind!
